I did not grow up in the age of cell phones, the internet, Facebook, Twitter and other Social Media so I do not know how to work with them. In my hopes to write a book and be able to earn a living off of it, I was instructed to open a Facebook account and accept friend requests. The problem with that is since I am not familiar with how to use it I may end up with a lot of friends but then end up with 100’s of e-mails alerting me to someone posting something on Facebook!
As it is, since I post comments on a Democratic website, I receive numerous emails wanting me to donate money. Sometimes I donate to a cause but then end up with endless emails from that also.
I had accepted over 100 friends requests on Facebook but then ended up with unending notifications that someone posted something on Facebook Recently went through and changed the settings so I only get notifications from certain people to cut down on the Social emails I get through my G-mail account.
Luckily, G-mail siphons out the majority of spam and puts it into a spam folder where I can go on occasion to see if something got put in there by mistake. That is a total blessing as I could not deal with all the email and trying to find the things I actually want to look at.
Another thing is G-mail siphons emails into a Promotions section where I can check to see if anything is in there I want to look at. Since I have been donating money here and there to causes and to Democratic campaigns, I have been inundated with numerous emails looking for donations or asking me to sign petitions etc. I usually end up highlighting the entire folder of emails and deleting them all!
I look forward to reading diaries here on KOS and I do like to donate money from time to time, but when you have a limited income each month there is not much I can do as far as donating money. At least here, I can be pretty sure I am hearing the truth in the news and not just someone’s version of the truth.
