Test your knowledge of the Affordable Care Act and See What You Know

Got this flyer from the “Independent Women’s Forum” last week and thought maybe it was some information to let the voters know about the Affordable Care Act, but after reading it, it didn’t sound very encouraging, because it seemed to be mostly negative, discouraging people against it.

This is where the flyer came from and the website, where you can learn about the ACA, was just wondering anybody’s thoughts.

I firmly believe Obamacare has been a blessing and has helped a lot of people, but it seems by the questions this flyer is trying to turn people against the ACA and convince them that it isn’t really helping anyone.

I have commented numerous times, on other people’s diaries admitting there are things wrong with it and some people fall between the cracks and they pretty much get screwed by having to pay high premiums, because they make a little too much to qualify for the subsidy.

I go to lunch with a couple friends of mine and defend Obamacare, when the one lady starts in about how her son doesn’t see any benefit from it. He don’t qualify for the subsidy, so his premiums and deductible are high.  I told her there are several problems with Obamacare but the Republicans refuse to work with the Democrats, to pass legislation to help fix the things which have come up showing the different problems with it.  All they want to do is say how bad it is and do whatever they can to  defund it and they don’t have anything to replace it.  If they end up killing it, a lot of people, whom never had Medical Insurance before, will lose it.  It has helped a lot more people, than it hurt.

I scanned the flyer, transferred it to Paint, so I could break it apart and put the answer to the questions they have asked.  It seems they are looking at the negative side of things and not revealing all the benefits.  I was very disappointed, when I realized it was meant to be negative about Obamacare.

I don’t know if all these facts they are stating are true or if they might be true and they are just leaving out all the positives about Obamacare.  I know there are people around here, whom don’t like it, but then they really don’t know what it is all about.  I am lucky because I have Medicare and what they don’t cover, I am able to get Medicaid, to cover it.

I had been happy, when Medicaid came out with the service to transport you to your Medical appointments, but the company arranging the rides didn’t always communicate to the van provider, so since I need a van with a ramp, or a lift, since I am in an electric wheel chair and am unable to stand up, unless I put my braces on, to use a regular van.  I have kind of given up on the braces because I had been stumbling and falling quite often and since I have Polio and need the braces, in order to stand I need a handicap equipped van.  At first it worked great and I was happy with it, but last year, I incurred some large medical bills, so didn’t think anything of it.

I prefer to take my power chair, because then I don’t need to rely on other people so much.  Several different times, the van provider came with a regular van, but I was unable to use that, it had to be a disabled equipped van.  Another time I scheduled 2 doctor appointments, in Appleton, so I could take care of both of them, but then they came with the wrong van.

Another time, I went to the Doctor appointment, but then they only scheduled me 1 way, so was stuck at the Dr’s office for 4 hours and they were almost getting ready to close, before another van was able to pick me up and take me home, which is over an hour away.

I had to cancel the appointments, which meant I had to wait quite long, for a new appointment and then I was not able to schedule them for the same day and had to do them on 2 separate days, which was stupid, but that’s the way it was.  I got tired of relying on them and even though it was nice not having a car payment, I decided to buy a car, which I can use and put a wheelchair in the trunk, but then I need someone to go with me.

Recently I was going to try to use the Medicaid Transportation Service again, since it is more difficult with the car, but when I went to schedule it, they said I wasn’t covered!  Come to find out I have to meet a $4,500 deductible, before I can use the van service to go to the Doctor, where I will incur the medical expense, which will count toward the deductible.  Seems pretty stupid.

I had Badgercare, where I didn’t need to satisfy the deductible, in order to use the service, but our wonderful governor, decided to lower the income and if you made more than that amount you did not qualify, for Badgercare.  I was able to get on MAPP, which is the Medical Assistance Purchase Plan and now I have to meet a deductible, before they will cover anything.  I have been lucky that I don’t have many medical bills, because I have not had any serious medical problems.

It just irritates me that Snotty Walker had to screw around with our Medicaid, and did not accept the Medicaid Expansion, like many other Rethug Governors, and many people lost coverage all together.  At least I was able to get the purchase plan and qualify for another program, which pays for the premiums for Medicare and Medicaid.

Originally, if you made 130% of the poverty rate, which had been a little over $1,000 a month, you were eligible for Badgercare (Wisconsin version of Medicaid).  Snotty not only would not accept the Medicaid expansion but also turned the screws a little harder and lowered the rate to 100% , of the poverty rate, which is about $590!

Since I only get Social Security Disability, my income is close to $1,000, so no longer qualified for Badgercare, but was able to get MAPP, but now have to meet the $4,500 deductible.

We really need to get Snotty out of office and get a Democrat in, as Governor and enough other Democrats in the House and Senate, so the Rethugs can no longer obstruct all the good things trying to be done and and passing legislation which is harmful to the state.  It will take a Democrate, to hopefully steer us back to reality, before Snotty began taking us backwards.
