First off, let me get it straight,“I am a Hillary Clinton Supporter”. I have known her and followed her career, since she was First Lady to her husband Bill Clinton. I never heard of Bernie Sanders, until he began his campaign for the Democratic Nominee, for President in the 2016 election. I respect him and feel he has a lot of great ideas, but he don't have as much experience as Hillary.
I have known Hillary, since the early '90's and kept track of what she has accomplished since then.
Hillary Rodham Clinton served as a United States Senator from New York from January 3, 2001 to January 21, 2009
I was glad she ran for President, in 2008 and had wanted her to get the nod, but when Obama became the Democratic nominee, I threw my support behind him, still supporting Hillary for all she had accomplished.
I respected her for being a strong woman, who had a law degree and I agree with a lot of the things she stood for back then, as I do now. I was surprised and happy that President Obama admiring her qualities, appointed her as Secretary of State.
While she was Secretary of State, she had a lot of contact with foreign countries and it seemed she always gained their respect, whenever she interacted with them. She respected them and their cultures and did her best to not insult any of them. With all her interaction with different foreign countries and their citizens, I think she had their respect too, which would be a plus in her roll as President of the United States.
Although Bernie would probably do good, in foreign affairs, he has not had any contact with foreign countries, that I know of. I am sure, if he became President he would treat the foreign dignitaries with respect to them and their culture.
One of the things which impressed me about her was when she became involved with setting up a Universal Healthcare Plan, which President Clinton had promised to work on, when he became President.
The Clinton health care plan, known officially as the Health Security Act and unofficially nicknamed "Hillarycare" (after First Lady Hillary Clinton) by its detractors, was a 1993 healthcare reform package proposed by the administration of President Bill Clinton and closely associated with the chair of the task force devising the plan, First Lady of the United StatesHillary Rodham Clinton.
Opposition to the plan was heavy from conservatives, libertarians, and the health insurance industry. The industry produced a highly effective television ad, "Harry and Louise", in an effort to rally public support against the plan. Instead of uniting behind the President's original proposal, Democrats offered a number of competing plans of their own. Hillary Clinton was drafted by the Clinton Administration to head a new Task Force and sell the plan to the American people, a plan which ultimately backfired amid the barrage of fire from the pharmaceutical and health insurance industries and considerably diminished her own popularity. By September 1994, the final compromise Democratic bill was declared dead by Senate Majority LeaderGeorge J. Mitchell
I think back then, maybe the biggest problem was getting the Medical Insurance Industry and the Pharmaceutical Industry on their side, which they didn't and then the industry fought the plan and finally killed it. It is why I feel the ACA succeeded, because President Obama got the Medical Insurance Industry on his side and showed them they could make money off of this plan.
The quirks, in the ACA, could be corrected, if only the Republicans would be willing to work with the Democrats, to fix the flaws and make it even better. Instead, they do their best to throw the monkey wrench in it and try to repeal it and continue telling their constituents how bad it is and trying to take it away from them.
I worked in the Medical Insurance Industry processing medical claims, for 6 years, so know a fair amount about medical insurance. One of the major excuses, for the Medical Insurance Industry, to raise rates, was getting enough healthy people on their plans, to make up for all the sick ones. President Obama got them on his side, by promising they would have more healthy customers, to make up for all the sick ones, which they would be now covering.
By making changes to Pre-Existing and other things, the Medical Insurance Industry was now more apt to agree with the ACA and not fight it. After the first few years, of the ACA, the insurance industry found they wouldn't lose their ass and would actually start making money, so even though some of them backed out others joined, because they saw what a good thing it actually was.
If an insurance company did end up with a tremendous amount of sick people and it looked like they would lose money, they saw once these people began getting their medical problems fixed, they would no longer have that many claims. Also, since routine care was free, people could avoid health situations before they became too big to handle.
Bernie has all these ideas and feels he can accomplish all of them, when he becomes president. He will have a difficult time accomplishing much of that due to the fact you have to have Congress agree with you, to get it done. As can be seen, since President Obama became President, that is not very easy, with the Republican Congress, who fights tooth and nail on everything he wants to get done. He has sometimes had to invoke executive privilege, to get around Congress and do it on his own, because of their obstructionism.
Bernie wants a single payer system, but how are you going to accomplish that, when you have a dysfunctional Congress, with so many Republicans working against you at every turn? You would also have the insurance industry and other players who would fight any changes, if they were going to end up losing a lot of their business. That is why Hillary feels you have to take it slow, if you are going to make any significant changes.
Though she didn’t say it, Clinton’s point was obvious: Progress doesn’t happen overnight, but it requires a leader — even an unexciting one — grinding it out, year after year
Hillary's small steps at a time seems more likely to happen, especially considering the dysfunctional Congress and obstructional Republicans up to this point. No matter how great the ideas, if it is a great idea, but the Republicans don't like it, they will fight tooth and nail against it, if they think it’s a great idea, but the Democrats don't, they will also fight tooth and nail, to try to get it, even if it means shutting down the government and hurting their own constituents!
It don't matter to them how many of their own constituents are sent home and don't have an income, while the government is shut down. It don’t matter how much money the shutdown costs, even if it's up to a billion dollars! They don't care how many tourists, who want to see some of the Federal attractions and parks, can't because of the shut down. To put it another way, they don’t care how much work time they waste, how many of their constituents tax dollars they waste or even how many good things, such as healthcare, they are willing to take away from their constituents!
They put so much of everyone's life in jeopardy, just to get what they want. It is extremely difficult for a Democrat to work with a Republican. Even though President Obama is a Democrat, what his problem is, according to many Republicans, especially in the south, is he's black and the older generation, in the south, can't admit black people are just as smart as white people and they hate, with a passion, being told what to do by a black person, no matter how great his ideas are or how much good he has accomplished.
Hillary's main problems are going to be:
she's a woman and although many southern Republicans hate blacks, they also hate women, about as much, because they can't admit a woman is able to be in a position of power. A woman's place is in the home having babies and taking care of the family, while the man is out there earning the money, for his family.
Of course being a woman also helps because of all her work to help women and girls overseas and in America, fighting for their rights and trying to keep them from losing the rights they already have despite the Republicans chipping away at them, especially their goal of defunding Planned Parenthood.
Then, of course, she is a Clinton and a Democrat. Many Republicans have it in for the Clintons , which could be seen by how they treated her husband, when he was President, wasting all that time and money trying to impeach him.
They kept looking for scandals to impeach him with, especially the Monica Lewinsky scandal which broke out at that time. Now reporters want to know what she thought of her husband, with the Monica Lewinsky scandal, trying to get her to say something they can use against her in her campaign. They thought they had found the way to get rid of Bill, but failed. Now with Hillary running, they are trying to bring up all these scandals and bring up what she said back then, as compared to now. I guess some people don't believe anyone can change over 20 years.
The Clintons were Democrats so no matter what they did or tried to do, back then, wasn't good enough for the Republicans. Despite all the time and their constituent's money they spent, they couldn't get the Monica Lewinsky scandal to stick so they could impeach him. He had a difficult time working with the Republicans back then also, but he had one thing going for him and that was he was white. Now no matter what President Obama does, anything bad that happens is his fault and anything good, which happens is because of the work the Republicans have done.
Hillary impresses me, because she has a law degree and is a lawyer. She is also a strong woman and willing to fight for the little people. She has a lot of experience, since being first lady, a senator and then Secretary of State. She has a lot of experience with foreign dignitaries and seems to have a lot of their respect.
She has gone to the different countries and worked with their poor people helping them have a better life. She is devoted to helping girls and women and is fighting for Planned Parenthood and the Republicans continuing effort to defund them, eliminating medical care in places where poor women, men and children have no other place to get help.
It don't matter to me, if she sat on the board at Walmart. What does that have to do with anything? I also don't care, if she said something before and now she says just the opposite. I don't consider that flip flopping but getting more information, which enabled her to change her mind.
I support Hillary and if Bernie were to get the nomination, I would support him. What would it take for me to become a Bernie supporter? It would take an awful lot, unless he got the Democratic Nomination.
