I can see having guns for hunting and other sports and for those who need them, for their job, but do we really need people to have all these high powered rifles? Also, seems like in areas, such as Texas, with their open carry & need for guns to protect themselves, there are plenty of instances, where innocent people are shot, when the house owner mistakes someone needing help or their own family, for a burglar and shoot first, then check to find out it wasn't a burglar after all.
Switzerland is frequently cited as an example of a country with high gun ownership and a low murder rate. Switzerland keeps only a small standing army, and relies much more heavily on its militia system for national defense. This means that most able-bodied civilian men of military age keep weapons at home in case of a national emergency. These weapons are fully automatic, military assault rifles, and by law they must be kept locked up. Their issue of 72 rounds of ammunition must be sealed, and it is strictly accounted for. This complicates their use for criminal purposes, in that they are difficult to conceal, and their use will be eventually discovered by the authorities.
However, Switzerland also has a high degree of gun control, and actually makes a better argument for gun regulation than gun liberalization. Despite these regulations, Switzerland has the second highest handgun ownership and handgun murder rate in the industrialized world.Open carry, being able to tote a rifle around, wherever you go, seems to not only be asking for trouble, but also running the risk of someone reporting that you are dangerous, of course, according to some law enforcement officers, only if you happen to be black. If you are white, you can carry them wherever you want, or so it seems according to all the police interactions lately. How do we know, if you are a good guy or a bad guy, better yet, how does law enforcement know?
About a month after the 2012 Sandy Hook school shootings, Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin in Oregon posted a video on his Facebook page from conspiracy theorists who said the event might have been a hoax. A few days later, he wrote to Vice President Joe Biden, telling him to stay away from gun control.http://www.msn.com/...Hanlin was thrust into the spotlight on Thursday, when a gunman opened fire at a college classroom in Douglas County, killing nine people and wounding several others before police shot him to death.
